Cardiovascular and Strength Water Exercise

Who likes Aqua Blast classes?

Aqua Blast a fun water workout for men and women looking for an intermediate-level water class. Come exercise in a way that is safe for your joints – a good option for people recovering from injury or surgery and also for pregnant women.

What is an Aqua Blast class?

Aqua Blast includes cardiovascular and strengthening exercises in the water for every class, with a short mobility and stretching segment at the end.

Participants enjoy the variety offered by this class. For instance, the class may be a prechoreographed routine to familiar music, and sometimes it is more of a spontaneous combination of movements to hit music. Background music chosen by the instructor includes popular hits from the 60s, 70s, 80s and beyond. It ranges from rock and roll to Motown to old R&B hits. Class members always have fun and sing along, which can make the heart happy.

The instructor may ask you to travel or to remain stationary during the exercises they lead, depending on what the instructor wants and feels like members need.

Body weight exercises involve your own body’s resistance against the water. Water travel makes good use of your body weight for the very important resistance exercises. Exercise equipment also provides resistance exercise. Your instructor might ask you to grab aqua dumbbells or pool noodles, and occasionally wrist and ankle straps. The straps are an easy way to add extra resistance to create more strength. They have some flat surface that provides extra resistance, or drag, in the water with no extra weight. This makes use of the straps easy on your joints.

Every single class meeting, expect to work every single muscle group at least once. This includes your upper body muscles – biceps, triceps, shoulders, chest, back and core, and all your lower body muscles – quadriceps, hamstrings and calves.

A fun exercise experience in some classes is boxing movements, which can be done with or without wrist straps. Boxing movements primarily work the upper body and core. Your arms, shoulders and chest get exercise with punches or jabs, uppercuts, hooks, jab to cross and the elbow strike. Your core also gets work with grounding, where you plant your feet on the pool floor while boxing with your upper body.

Community is a very big part of Aqua Blast. Class members really love encouraging and supporting each other as they get moderate amounts of exercise in this intermediate-level pool class. Instructors overhear class members saying this class is fun, welcoming and a good workout all in one.
