Suspension training fitness exercises
TRX™ 101 is an introductory class for the suspension training system. Come and learn the basics of total body resistance exercise.
Who likes TRX classes?
TRX 101 is for people who want to improve their overall physical fitness and resilience. No matter your fitness level and abilities, instructors encourage everyone with an interest in TRX to start at class level 101. It’s the best class level for those who are new to TRX to learn the basic fundamentals of TRX (total body resistance training). Each person has a unique starting place suited to their own body. In TRX 101, you will be guided by certified instructors who will help you learn the basics of the exercise foundations and how your body responds to the workload of resistance training.
What is a TRX class?
TRX means total body resistance training. This is a suspension training class that improves balance, strength, bone health, flexibility and overall fitness while using your own body as an integral part of the machine. Your TRX instructor will keep you motivated as you move through the exercise modalities and sequencing, with your bodyweight providing the resistance. TRX classes are considered an advanced exercise modality and people with basic athletic conditioning are suited best for success. If you’ve been sedentary, starting a basic workout regimen prior to beginning TRX will align you for success.
In this beginner-level class for TRX, you learn the suspension training system that includes the strap, a buckle or metal clip that allows you to move the strap length as needed, and how the system connects safely to the A-frame TRX rack. The strap on the A-frame allows you to leverage your own body weight as resistance against the force of gravity. Even though the concept may seem complex, you’ll learn to use it safely and easily after only a few classes. Every week that follows, your instructor shows you how to build on the basic moves to increase your fitness.
“Make your body your machine” is the mantra as TRX 101 participants use their own bodyweight for resistance during each exercise. Every inch you step closer to the rack increases your workload and every inch you step away from the rack decreases your workload. Give equal power to both sides of your body as you improve your core strength, muscle strength and cardio endurance. The benefits of TRX include toned and strengthened muscles of your abs, upper body, legs and more. Increase your workload each week with the support of your classmates and instructor. Your muscle strength and endurance, connective tissues and bone density improve with consistent practice on the strap. Consistency is key, and over time you’ll be able to continue with higher levels of work for longer periods of time. It may seem tough at first, but the mind/body connection you develop after about six classes enables you to truly enjoy the strap and look forward to the next class.
This unique fitness regimen was invented and perfected by a Navy Seal commander who wanted to develop a portable system to keep his men from deconditioning post-mission, as they languished without equipment in safe houses. Be sure and wear flexible, lightweight, breathable clothing and supportive training tennis shoes.
When and where does the class meet?
TRX 101 classes are held on the TRX frames at WK Fitness & Wellness Centers at North and Pierremont in Shreveport and in Bossier City. Classes meet for 50 minutes every week.
Why do TRX?
TRX helps you maintain strength and mobility throughout your lifetime. It benefits your body’s musculoskeletal system in wonderful ways through pulling, balancing, weight bearing exercises and more. TRX makes connective tissues stronger and more pliable, which helps to keep the body strong and prevent traumatic injuries. These tissues include tendons that connect your muscles to your bones, and ligaments that connect your bones to one another. Pliable connective tissues help support and protect your bones and joints.
Fluid movements throughout the instructor-guided exercises improve balance and posture, with benefits that counteract our sedentary lifestyle. As people age, connective tissues generally shorten from nonuse and sitting too much, which ultimately may cause immobility and a greater likelihood of injury.
