Who likes Sustainable Core classes?
Sustainable Core is a fitness class that helps participants strengthen their upper body and improve their posture and balance. Strengthening one’s core is a first step in strengthening one’s overall body and preventing many types of physical injury.
What is a Sustainable Core class?
By definition, a “core” is a central and often foundational part of something. In the human body, according to Merriam-Webster dictionary, your core is the muscles in the middle of the torso that stabilize and move your pelvis, lower back, hips and trunk. So it is several central body muscle groups working together to provide foundational support that holds your body upright, including your diaphragm, pelvic floor and others.
The first part of the class lasts for 15 minutes in the aerobics studio. Light hand weights may occasionally be used to provide extra resistance that further strengthens your core. Next, the Sustainable Core class moves out to the main fitness area under the TRX tower. This is where participants go through a timed circuit style routine with five to six stations for 30 minutes. In this circuit you might do some intense exercises that involve planks, weighted balls, rope exercises, hip lifts with a ball and some TRX moves. After that is a cooldown that involves stretching and balance.
Regular participation in this class can help meet the key goals of this Sustainable Core class:
When and where does the Sustainable Core class meet?
The Sustainable Core class happens in multiple areas of the WK Fitness & Wellness Centers, including the aerobics studio and the weight room floor by the TRX tower. Check the interactive class schedule to find a class that works for you. Classes meet for 50 minutes every week.
Why do Sustainable Core?
Whether or not you have a current medical need, strengthening and stabilizing the core of the body is recommended for everyone. A stronger core relieves some of the pressure off your chest and joints. The stabilization protects the body from injury and chronic pain.
