Build Muscle and Cardio Strength

Who likes Spin/TRX classes?

Spin/TRX™ is a class for men and women ages 18+ who have an interest in a workout that includes both strength and cardiovascular training. This fast paced class is for people at intermediate fitness levels who can do at least 45 minutes of sustained exercise. All participants must be able to stand for exercises at the TRX tower and be able to get on and off the stationary bike. Regular attendance builds relationships with like minded people who encourage and motivate you.

What is a Spin/TRX class?

Spin/TRX is a combination format exercise class. You’ll start out at the TRX tower where you perform mostly upper body strengthening movements for about 20 minutes. Then you’ll transition to the aerobics studio for about 20 minutes of spin exercises.

On the TRX straps, you’ll be asked to do things like row variations that include low rows and high rows. Bicep curls, chest presses, triceps extensions and shoulder raises are also exercises you may be asked to perform. Another sequence of exercises includes fly variations such as I fly, Y fly, and T fly. These fly variations help strengthen the posterior upper back and shoulders, which promote good posture. Combined, these upper body exercises strengthen your biceps, triceps, all shoulder muscles (anterior, posterior, medial), trapezius, back and chest muscles. It is important to note that you will engage a lot of your core muscles during TRX workouts.

Moving to the spin segment, you’ll work muscles in your lower body. The instructor helps you adjust the bike at the seat and the handlebars to fit your size. You cycle on a stationary bike as the instructor leads you through a routine that has different intervals of speed and resistance. You’ll hear a hand-picked playlist with music at a certain beat per minute to help you spin at a certain speed. The background music keeps you engaged, but the riding is not choreographed. Class ends with a brief cool down period on the spin bike.

For this class, be sure and wear comfortable gym clothes that absorb sweat. Don’t forget about the towel service at all the WK Fitness & Wellness Centers. Members have access to cool, refreshing water machines so you can fill your personal water bottle and carry it to your workstation.

When and where does the Spin/TRX class meet?

Spin/TRX classes take place at the TRX tower and the aerobics room at WK Fitness & Wellness Centers. Check the online interactive class schedule to find a class that works for you.
