Group Fitness Classes

Our group fitness classes offer a friendly atmosphere with a personalized approach to exercise. Classes are taught by nationally certified instructors who excel in motivating and educating. We offer many multi-level classes that will challenge the “fit” member and encourage the “novice” exerciser.

If you have any orthopedic or medical problems, our instructors can offer modifications of specific exercises to meet your needs.

Who likes Spin classes? 

Spin is a class for men and women ages 18+ who enjoy cycling, a good cardio workout, and a fun, fast pace, upbeat class. The class appeals to people at most levels of fitness who are healthy enough to do 45 minutes of sustained cardiovascular activity. All participants must be physically capable of getting on and off the bike and riding it.  

What is a Spin class? 

Spin is a high intensity indoor cycling cardio workout. You cycle on a bike that is stationary as the instructor leads you through a routine that has different intervals of speed and varying tensions. The only equipment you’ll need is a stationary bike, provided at WK Fitness & Wellness Centers. 

Before they lead Spin exercises, the instructor helps you adjust the bike to fit your size. The bike can be adjusted at the seat and the handlebars to fit you. Then you’ll do a warmup to loosen your muscles and slowly accelerate your breathing. 

After the warmup, a skilled instructor leads intervals of sprints, jumps and hills. The tension on the bike can be adjusted to simulate hills. Through work that is both on and off the seat, with different hand placements on the handlebars, you’ll be able to work all the major muscle groups.  

All of this is set to fun, upbeat music after which you’ll do a nice cool down and stretch. The instructor keeps an eye on your form and technique throughout the entire class, helping you make corrections when needed. Best of all, they’ll cheer you on so you'll be motivated to keep spinning.  

Spin is a great lower impact option for cardio exercise, which helps keep your heart healthy. Some benefits of a healthy heart include:

When and where does the Spin class meet? 

Spin classes are taught in the aerobics room at WK Fitness & Wellness Centers. Check the online interactive class schedule to find a class that works for you. 

Why Do Spin? 

Although Spin may be physically demanding, the class is easy to follow and learn. Most people know how to ride a bike, which makes it a good class for beginners. A stationary bike is a much safer alternative to a regular bike with the same cardio and physical benefits. Spin is a lower impact alternative to many other types of cardio and easier on your joints.

Bikes offer cycling “clip-in” shoe option. Members can purchase these SPD clips at local bike shops. A water bottle is highly recommended.
