Who likes Low Impact/Pilates classes?
Low Impact/Pilates is a class that appeals to people who like Pilates strengthening and stretching exercises but may need a few modifications for your joints. Also, people who want to get a good cardio workout and need modifications for your joints will be at home in this class.
What is a Low Impact/Pilates class?
Low Impact/Pilates is geared to satisfy a couple of objectives for people looking for a new workout routine. Overall, this is mostly like the regular Pilates class but it also includes a little low-impact cardiovascular exercise. This means cardio that is less intense than a heart pounding sprint. It does not involve any jumping. Think more like a march in place rather than a jog in place kind of activity. These activities are a lot easier on your joints.
When it comes to the Pilates portion of the class, you’ll be directed to do exercises that strengthen and tone your body’s core muscles, as well as stretches that help lengthen and tone your muscles. Some exercises might be standing leg lifts where you stand on one leg and lift the other leg to the front, side or back. Your instructor may ask you to do squats, lunges and any other kind of Pilates stretches. Some of the exercise equipment you may use includes stretch bands, Bosu ball, stability ball, gliding discs, light hand weights and more.
Outcomes experienced by Low Impact/Pilates members are increased stamina; improved flexibility, posture and balance; stronger core; and greater range of motion.
As the class winds to a close, you’ll be asked to do some cooldown stretching and quiet breathing exercises.
