If you need to, you can start Body Blast with modified variations of the exercises. Don’t miss out on this great workout!

What is a Body Blast class?

You'll be impressed with all the workout you can do in just 50 minutes. Body Blast starts with a warm-up that does a couple things. First, the warm-up increases the synovial fluid, or lubricant, within your joints. This allows your joints to move more freely. Second, the warmup prepares your whole body to perform intense exercises that increase your core body temperature.

After the warmup, you’ll seamlessly transition into more advanced movements that actually make your body stronger. This part of the class consists of a variety of things based on the instructor’s direction that day. Various exercises can use a wide variety of gym equipment to amp up cardio, strengthening and toning work. You'll increase your heart rate and feel your muscles burn in a good way.

The exercises may be isolated and use a single muscle group at a time like bicep curls, triceps kickbacks, lateral raises, front raises and calf raises. Or the exercises may be compound movements that work upper- and lower-body muscles at the same time. Examples of compound exercises are squat variations, lunge variations, shoulder presses and rows. Compound exercises may also get you on the ground for floor work with sit-ups, push-ups, mountain climbers and all kinds of planks. Different plank variations include the forearm plank, high plank with or without leg lifts, side planks and more. Plyometrics, or jumps, on the other hand, are another example of compound exercises that are high impact and perfect for this class: squat jumps, jumping jacks, jump lunges and burpees. The list goes on – you may even do Pilates style exercises to add variety and keep the workout interesting.

When the instructor uses exercise equipment, you’ll make use of kettlebells, dumbbells of varying weights, body bars, resistance bands, mini band, resistance tubes, steps, yoga balls, bender balls, Bosu balls and gliders.

Your instructor may even have you walk to the ballet barre to perform exercises such as calf raises and others that use the barre for stability. You might hold the barre for stability with a mini band or resistance band around your knees or ankles to do glute kickbacks or abductions. Or you might be asked to wrap a resistance tube around the barre and perform rows or squats while holding the resistance tube.

Sometimes the instructor chooses music that is a certain beat per minute to help participants move to a certain rhythm and keep track of repetitions more easily. If the instructor chooses to call out exercises and count reps aloud, the music might be light in the background to keep participants engaged and motivated. This class is not prechoreographed.

Body Blast includes so much exercise variety to work your whole body. You'll sweat, have fun and build community. Then you’ll enjoy the cool down toward the end of class that has relaxing moves to cool down participants from the high intensity workout they just did. The breathing, stretching and mobility moves during cool down make you ready to face the next challenge.
