Group Fitness Classes

Our group fitness classes offer a friendly atmosphere with a personalized approach to exercise. Classes are taught by nationally certified instructors who excel in motivating and educating. We offer many multi-level classes that will challenge the “fit” member and encourage the “novice” exerciser.

If you have any orthopedic or medical problems, our instructors can offer modifications of specific exercises to meet your needs.

Who likes Abs classes? 

For adults 18 and older, our Abs class is a great resource to help you improve your core strength. 

What is an Abs class? 

Our Abs class is 15 minutes of directed activity that strengthens your overall core by way of working out your abdominal and back muscles. You'll also work the muscles around your pelvis, which further increases your strength and stability. You’ll do a lot of crunches, lower back exercises, twists and planks, along with other fun core exercises.  

The planks can be tough but fun with a lot of variations. Different plank variations include the mountain climber, plank jacks, plank tuck, plank jack and tuck, Johnny C or up-up down-down planks, alternating or rotating plank, side plank, forearm plank, high plank with or without leg lifts, single-leg plank and more. 

Most exercises require you to be on the ground and a mat is used. Your instructor demonstrates each exercise so you’ll see how it looks. The instructor keeps the class moving and fun with constant visual and verbal cues.  

When and where does the Abs class meet? 

Abs classes meet at WK South Wellness Center in the aerobics studio. Check out our online interactive class schedule for the day and time. Each class meets for 15 minutes.

Why do abs? Some might ask why you wouldn’t do an ab workout? The main benefit of consistent ab work is a stronger core. As your body’s main support system that supports your spine and holds you upright, a stronger core can help prevent lower back pain and help you with balance.
