Member Spotlight: Larry Wall

Posted Sep 22, 2023

Larry Wall is a cardiac rehab success story and a devoted member of WK Fitness & Wellness Centers. For more than 25 years now, the fitness and wellness centers are his second home. He's made many lasting friendships and acquired several nicknames over the years, like “Brother Larry” and “Mayor of the Wellness Center.” Reciprocal membership allows him to spend time at the center closest to him – mostly at North and South – working out, visiting longtime friends and meeting new members.

It all started back in 1992 when Larry’s doctor said his cholesterol, triglycerides and blood pressure were out of control. Heart problems ran in his family and he knew genetics were not on his side. Larry’s quadruple bypass surgery that April scared him a lot, so he decided to enroll in Willis-Knighton's cardiac rehab program.

During the next 15 years, Larry learned firsthand the importance of exercise when he saw positive results and felt better. Those pesky genes, however, reared their ugly head again and in 2017, Larry needed a double bypass surgery. Back to cardiac rehab Larry went. Exercise physiologist Tim Smith worked closely with Larry, pushing him to reach each and every program milestone. Larry graduated from cardiac rehab knowing that the program and staff helped him achieve the best physical condition of his entire life. He looks back fondly on the more than 25 years of life with family and friends and the ability to carry on his personal landscape business, which motivates Larry to continue regular visits to WK Fitness & Wellness Centers.

When Larry is not exercising or working, several hobbies keep him busy. He regularly attends North DeSoto Church of God. Larry enjoys raising his own garden each year and fishing with his brother on Dorcheat Bayou. He spends as much time as he can with his 15-year-old grandson, Bud.
