Group Fitness Classes

Our group fitness classes offer a friendly atmosphere with a personalized approach to exercise. Classes are taught by nationally certified instructors who excel in motivating and educating. We offer many multi-level classes that will challenge the “fit” member and encourage the “novice” exerciser.

If you have any orthopedic or medical problems, our instructors can offer modifications of specific exercises to meet your needs.

Improve your cardiovascular endurance, core strength, muscle tone and definition

Who likes Bootcamp/TRX classes?

Bootcamp/TRX appeals to men and women looking for an intense, all-over body workout that includes cardiovascular and strength training. Most class members are intermediate- to advanced-fitness levels. On the other hand, beginners who have a lot of energy are always welcome to take the class. We have modified variations available as people become acquainted with Bootcamp/TRX exercises and their proper form.

What is a Bootcamp/TRX class?

This class offers a good variety of exercise that is unique and always engaging. Each exercise leads participants to improve their cardiovascular health and strength. Participants look forward to the challenge each week.

The routine for any class may include timed rounds that can go from 20 seconds to a minute and a half, or the instructor may count out repetitions for the participants. The pattern of exercises may be a super set, triple set, pyramid format or ladder format.

Some days the class may be circuit-style where the instructor sets up stations with a different piece of gym equipment at each station and explains how it will be used. Various exercise equipment contributes to the high impact and high intensity nature of Bootcamp/TRX. The equipment used for each class might include TRX straps, battle ropes, resistance bands, body bars, barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells, medicine balls, wall balls, Bosu balls, yoga balls, aerobic steps and weighted ankle straps. Each station is equally intense, geared for people looking for high intensity and high impact exercises. Members move to the next station when the timer sounds or the instructor says to move.

Aside from gym equipment, many exercises simply use a person’s own bodyweight for strength training. This might be squats, shoulder presses, pushups or pullups. Members may be asked to get on the floor and do some core work with mountain climbers, planks, side planks, moving planks, forearm planks, sit-ups and dead bug variations. Simple cardiovascular exercises may ask members to run in place, run up the stairwell or run outside. It is important for members to know that they may be asked to do plyometrics, or jump training, to improve quickness. Beginners might be instructed to do a modified or regressed version that requires less muscle power. Plyometric exercises include squat jumps, tuck jumps, burpees, jumping jacks and jump lunges.

Compound exercises use many muscle groups, like lunges with a curl, squat presses, sumo squat presses, battle rope exercises and the renegade row. Isolation exercises focus on one muscle group at a time, like bicep curls, triceps kickbacks, lateral raises, front raises and calf raises.

With so many exercise options both with and without equipment, Bootcamp/TRX members should expect to work every muscle in every single class. The instructor demonstrates each exercise with a few repetitions, coaches participants, watches to correct form and prevent injury, and ensures the proper muscle groups are being worked. You’ll do exercises to strengthen every muscle group: quads, hamstrings, calves, glutes, hips, shoulders, biceps, triceps, traps, back and chest.

This class typically is not prechoreographed but it usually has background music to keep the class motivated and energized. Come ready to sweat and take advantage of the WK towel service. Enjoy the community as you show off your improved strength and cardiovascular health. Members have fun challenging each other in a friendly way.

When and where does the Bootcamp/TRX class meet?

Bootcamp/TRX classes may have different meeting schedules. Each class meeting is 50 minutes at a TRX Tower. Look for a Bootcamp/TRX class schedule at a WK Fitness & Wellness Center near you.

Why do Bootcamp/TRX?

Members who do Bootcamp/TRX or any kind of circuit training can expect to improve their overall fitness with increased cardiovascular endurance, core strength, muscle tone and definition. Muscle preservation as you age is important for both men and women, and Bootcamp/TRX can help you prevent sarcopenia, or natural muscle loss. Come have fun, feel accomplished and see the difference.

Participants frequently say this class is fun. They also report mental benefits – the intensity helps the body release endorphins, a happy hormone that eases pain and increases feelings of well-being. Resistance training also can increase insulin sensitivity and help prevent chronic conditions like diabetes, depression and Alzheimer’s disease.
